Assessment of The Milwaukee 5615-24 Multi-Base Router Package

Milwaukee introduced their new Heavy Duty Plunge Base in June 2007 to complement their award-winning, modern range of BodyGrip Mounted Base routers, which contains design elements that many woodworking experts would prefer. The Milwaukee 5615-24 Multi-Base router now has all of these fantastic bases.

Efficiency Alternatives:

The motor is a tough 1-3/4 MAX horsepower, 11.0 amp Milwaukee-built motor that runs at a no-load 24,000 RPM. If you intend on working with tough maple all day, you may need to go up to a larger motor. However, for many woodworkers, I believe the ability is more than adequate for each delicate and difficult wood.

This router comes with a 1/4″ and a 1/2″ collet so that you may use it with any of your bits.

One aspect of this router that I especially enjoy is its remarkably clean operation. I’ve experienced far greater vibration in other manufacturers’ routers. Because a portion of the vibration is transmitted by the bit, you can anticipate more of a decrease in vibration with this router than with others.

The depth adjustment controls are precise and accurate. The dive depth of 2-7/8″ is more than I’d ever desire for my projects, and the plunge mechanism operates well without sticking. I love Bosch routers too, but one thing I’ve experienced in some of their models is a bit of stickiness in the plunge mechanism.

Unfortunately, the working mechanisms aren’t dust-sealed. Nonetheless, the vacuum attachment is fantastic and may help to keep flying dust particles to a minimum in your workspace.

Another performance-enhancing feature is the two distinct sub-bases, which really increase the visibility of your work. The Sub-base Concentricity Gauge also aids in the precise centering of template guides.

Options are Built for Comfort:

What a challenge it is to battle with making height adjustments to a table-mounted router. One of the most useful design features of this router is that the fixed base has a gap through which you may modify the height when it’s positioned within the router table.

The collets are relatively simple to change. However, changing the bits necessitates the typical use of two wrenches (that are included).

The depth adjustment knobs are straightforward to use.

Base replacement is quick and easy, and no tools are required.

The owner’s manual provides a reasonable level of detail. It is reasonable and easy to follow.

Now, about that contentious carrying case… It’s tough, it’s effective in protecting the router because it’s extremely durable, and it’s HUGE. Now, if you’re short on space in your workshop, you might not appreciate that. Personally, I appreciate having enough space in there for my bits and other accessories to be stored all together. There’s a far better probability of an absent-minded man like me losing them.

Options for Comfort (Ergonomics):

In terms of ergonomics, my personal favorite is Milwaukee’s proprietary BodyGrip® feature, which allows you to keep the router securely across the center with both hands while gripping the handle on the opposite side with your other hand. This provides a sense of positive management.

This router seems well-balanced, not too hefty, and the smooth functioning undoubtedly adds to your comfort level after a while of use.

Finally, the grips are comfortable, and the controls seem just where they should be.

Options for Safety:

In terms of safety, this unit’s double-insulated construction is the industry standard for preventing electrical shock.

The power switch is one product that might be enhanced. Although it is much recessed, it is still possible to accidentally bump it on, thus caution is advised.

Overall, this is most likely one of the safest routers manufactured because it’s so well-balanced and simple to use. This suggests more operator management than some competing routers, which may be clumsy.

Guarantee and dependability:

I apologize for disappointing those of us who want to buy American. This router is most likely made in China, which explains why the price is so low. Check out the competition, though. How many of them provide a 5-year guarantee like Milwaukee’s? Please notify me if you come across one.

While on the topic, it’s widely known that Milwaukee’s buyer assistance is excellent if you ever have a problem.

Conclusion:

If you’re an experienced woodworker who intends to put your router to heavy use every day, I don’t need to tell you that you’ll have to pay much more than this. You will very certainly be purchasing three or more HP routers with variable speeds.

Alternatively, as long as you’re not dealing with a lot of hard maple wood, you’ll most likely be delighted with this router and pleased with the money you saved. It offers several good choices and a lot of power for the money. With the two bases and two collets, it’s almost like having two amazing power tools for the price of one.
